2 A R C H D I O C E S E O F D E N V E R A Year of Saints Julia Greeley, now a Servant of God e canonization process for Julia Greeley was opened Dec. 18, 2016, and as part of the process, her remains were exhumed from Mt. Olivet Cemetery May 26-31. e former slave was then laid in her nal resting place at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception on June 7. It was a historic rst for the Archdiocese of Denver, as Auxiliary Bishop Jorge Rodriguez noted before he sealed her funerary box: "She will be the rst person buried in Denver's Cathedral. Not a bishop, not a priest – a laywoman, a former slave. Isn't that something?" With humility, perseverance and faith, Denver's "Angel of Charity" demonstrated with her life what it is to follow Christ. She helped the poor, and she spread devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. She died in 1918. Upon examining her remains, forensic anthropologist Dr. Christine Pink revealed that Julia also suered from arthritis. "She likely was in pain," she said, "and joyful despite that." e Archdiocese of Denver marked 100 years since the apparitions of Our Lady to three shepherd children in Fatima with a Holy Door, priestly ordinations, and the consecration of the Archdiocese of Den- ver to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. On Oct. 23, 2016, Archbishop Samuel Aquila opened a Holy Door at Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Lakewood, and designated the parish a pilgrimage site through Octo- ber 2017. e parish also launched a rosary campaign that tallied 2.1 million rosaries prayed throughout the centennial year. On May 13, 2017, the celebratory events continued when Archbishop Aquila or- dained eight men to the priesthood on the feast day of Our Lady of Fatima, and the 100th anniversary of the rst apparition of Our Lady to Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta. At the ordination, Archbishop an- nounced that he would consecrate the Archdiocese of Denver to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on Oct. 13. More than 73 parishes participated in the consecration. 100 Years of Fatima
