A Program for Everyone 2017 ANNUAL REPORT City of Idaho Falls Department of Parks and Recreation PA R K S D I V I S I O N ACCOMPLISHMENTS • Ryder Park - installed culvert, dug ditch and lined ditch, concreted falls for opening of the second fishing pond. • Pickle ball is alive and well at Lincoln Park the old tennis courts were converted into six (6) new pickle ball courts, the grand opening was held on July 24, 2017. Parks resurfaced the courts and installed new nets and standards. • Put up new downtown pedestrian signage and maintained new Broadway Entranceway fountain. • Three (3) new topiaries of two (2) cub bears and a big horn sheep, which were built by local artist Jason Brown, were installed along the river walk. • Prepped and poured concrete pad for new wolves' art bench on east bank of river walk. • Assisted with Phase III completion of the Rock Gardens at Taylors Crossing and installed seven (7) new pedestrian benches. • Purchased and installed new 40 x 90 ft. tent used at Air Show and Sandy Downs for War Bonnet Round Up and other events. THE PARKS DIVISION is responsible for a myriad of city services. The Division's operational activities are separated into Parks Maintenance, Horticulture/Urban Forestry, Weed/Environmental Control, Irrigation Management, and Cemeteries. The staff works together to provide high quality, safe and well maintained parks, trails, athletic facilities, pavilions/shelters, cemeteries, public restrooms and numerous other recreation facilities. The Division also provides citywide special event assistance, snow removal, weed control, the banner program, ice arena maintenance, the holiday lighting program as well as maintenance of all memorials, flowerbeds, and city turf grass. • Built new backstop at Esquire Field and changed dimensions of field. • Installed 30 new information bulletin boards in different park areas to advertise city events and programs. • Assisted with 4th of July relocation of event that was moved to Snake River Landing. • Remodeled house on Rollandet for New Offices for Superintendents of Parks and Cemeteries. • Received donation of 3.6 acres of canal frontage property adjacent to Reinhart Park from Centurion, LLC. 2
