The 2018 SCORE World Desert Championship will be soon underway with the 32nd SCORE San Felipe 250. This year, this legendary race will expanding to a 319 mile course, based on all the requests we have received for the past few years. This will provide more time on the race course for the participants to get a longer experience, along with fan viewing time over the expanded course. This is one of the SCORE series and off-road racing in general, most challenging courses. To add to all the importance of this historic race, the participant’s finish positions will now determine their starting position for the all- important 50th BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 500 Anniversary race this June. There will also be a new Beach Party activity on Contingency evening that will now be presented by RACELINE and SCORE for both fans and racers to interact and enjoy this fantastic event. The 2018 season will see the introduction of two great new sponsors. We want to welcome Polaris and VP Racing Fuels, as our latest family of “Official Product” partners, that will now be fully involved with the highest quality race proven products in their categories. They will be major contributors to growth and impact, along with the promotion and expansion of the SCORE World Desert Championship series, teams and sponsors for increased reach and exposure to our global fan base. This issue’s look at Baja racing history and the upcoming celebration of the 50th BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 500 will feature Baja Racing legend Bruce Myers and the “dune buggy” that started race vehicle development, Old Red, and its impact on the growth of the Off-Road Adventure lifestyle. We recently shot all the details on the race version, that captured the first Baja 1000 victory and paved the way for the next 50 years of race technology. Scot Hardin’s and Johnny Campbell’s motorcycle race accomplishments in Baja are amazing.
