PIF | CELEBRATE LIFE IDAHOFALLSMAGAZINE.COM 69 IF It's official! Idaho Falls is now a bona fide Pay it Forward city. We extend the invitation for you, your coworkers, your family and friends to enthusiastically join our community in the unified crusade to Pay it Forward. Pay it Forward is an expression for describing the beneficiary of a good deed, repaying it to others in some manner instead of to the giver. "Have you ever been a part of a Pay it Forward chain?" According to a news story on CBS Boston,"55 drive-thru custom- ers consecutively paid for the customer behind them at Heav'nly Donuts in Amesbury, Mass. The only reason the chain ended was because there were no more customers in line". Paying it Forward doesn't have to involve money. Acts of kind- ness contribute to the movement. We have created a coupon that you may access through us at www.idahofallsmagazine.com. The coupon's purpose is to explain how the recipient can continue the ripple effect of kindness. Below is the message on the coupon. You have received a Pay it Forward card. This means someone has completed a good deed for you and they wish for nothing in return. All they want is that you pass on this card, along with a good deed to someone else. It can be as big or small a deed as you would like. And Paying it Forward doesn't have to be formal. You don't need a coupon to hand to the recipient. Aligning with the International Pay it Forward Day foundation, the City of Idaho Falls and Bonneville County employees and Idaho Falls magazine launched our movement prior to the official interna- tional day on April 28. Our intention is to make every day of the year a Pay it Forward day in southeastern Idaho. To get started we ask that you Pay it Forward to at least three people. Do the kindness math! Your individual acts of kindness will be added to others, promoting com- munity spirit. Welcome to Pay-it-Forward City You can Pay it Forward anytime you like. If you decide not to Pay it Forward then no one will know but you. Thank you for your support. We hope your day has been made a little bit brighter by someone's heartfelt gesture. Pay it Forward is recognizing acts of kindness and doing something kind for someone else. Together, we can kick- start a chain reaction of generosity and thoughtful service. Proclamation WHEREAS, the Pay it Forward movement endeavors to pro- mote community spirit through acts of kindness; and WHEREAS, Pay it Forward is a movement that has been vital in inspiring millions of good deeds all over the world; and WHEREAS, the first Pay it Forward Day was created in 2007 in Australia to further the altruistic movement of goodwill; and WHEREAS, Pay it Forward Day is a now a worldwide event celebrated in more than 85 countries on 6 continents; and WHEREAS, Pay it Forward Day encourages people to do good deeds for others without asking for anything in return except for the recipient(s) to pay it forward to others who may be in need of a good turn; and WHEREAS, the Pay it Forward movement demonstrates that you can make a difference and create positive change in our community and world – one good deed at a time. THEREFORE; I, Rebecca Casper, Mayor of the City of Idaho Falls do hereby proclaim April 28, 2018 as: Pay It Forward Day in Idaho Falls and urge all citizens to observe this day with activities and acts of kindness that dem- onstrate and celebrate selfless giving. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the City of Idaho Falls to be affixed this 26th day of March, 2018. Rebecca Casper — Mayor, City of Idaho Falls What can you do? What can your business and workplace do? What can your neighborhood do? What can your family do? What can your club or church group do?
