AUGUST 2020 USAHOCKEYMAGAZINE.COM // 7 COLLEGE Return-To-School Plans Leave RPI's Season Up In The Air k When Rensselaer announced its return to campus-based operations plan it included protocols focused on health and safety, pedagogical innovation, operational effectiveness, limiting risk and managing consequences. The plan also included no intercollegiate athletics for the Fall semester. That plan left the 2020- 21 ice hockey season up in the air. The first dates of practice and competition for the hockey teams, both of which play at the Division I level, have yet to be determined. According to a press release on the Troy, N.Y., based university's website, the decision to participate in intercollegiate athletic competitions during the Winter 2020 and Spring 2021 seasons will be made at an appropriate time, and will be informed by an evaluation of the state of the COVID-19 pandemic. "The Institute will continue to confer with the NCAA, the ECAC, and the Liberty League regarding subsequent decisions," the announcement said. Student-athletes impacted by the decision will be considered for an NCAA waiver to extend their eligibility as a result of circumstances beyond their control. TC S H O C K E Y.
