This will be a full size NHL regulation hockey rink with dasher boards and glass, refrigeration and its own dedicated Zamboni. With approval and the financial support of the city of West Fargo, EPIC Companies, many other businesses and the local convention and visitor's bureau, this facility is truly one of a kind. The technology, equipment and staff investment at The Lights has put West Fargo on the map as an elite entertainment destination quickly. The Lights ice rink will be available for open skating, hockey, private parties, private rentals, special events and tournaments from November through February annually. During the summer, the outdoor space is used for concerts and many other activities. West Fargo Events has decided to make the outdoor space usable during the winter season by investing in all of the equipment to have refrigerated ice for years to come. "With all large projects there are always challenges to overcome," said Arena Warehouse owner Jeff Horstman. "Our team and the team at West Fargo Events have been spectacular to work with throughout the entire process. It is a lot of work, but so rewarding when the first kids hit the ice with smiles on their faces." Chemours helps Ainsworth with more efficient refrigerant options , In the recent past, Ainsworth has used R-404A refrigerant, an HFC blend, in multi-compressor ice rink systems. However, with the HFC regulatory phase-down underway in Canada, for their more recent system installations, Ainsworth worked with Chemours to understand their refrigerant options that would support the move towards lower global warming potential (GWP) gases. Through this evaluation, Ainsworth selected Opteon™ XP40 (R-449A), a non-ozone depleting refrigerant that has a 67% lower GWP compared to R-404A, without giving up the ASHRAE safety classification of A1: low toxicity and nonflammability. The selection of XP40 made sense for Ainsworth's customers, because the refrigerant is already readily available, as it is commonly used with leading supermarkets throughout Canada and the U.S. and is approved by major equipment and component manufacturers.
