2022 Use Case Automating Data Collection from Heat and Water Meters in Sibay, Russia https://en.iotvega.com/company THE RESULTS By automating the accounting of heat and water consumption of the city of Sibay, Russia, utilities management has increased its efficiency and competitive edge: • Service personnel reduced by 30% • Losses reduced by 8% thanks to the rapid detection of accidents and leaks SITUATION The city of Sibay, Russia employs a management company to oversee the heat and water meters of 250 houses and respond quickly to utility accidents or malfunctions before any there is any significant property damage. To do so, the company needs to collect meter readings at least once monthly. In every house there is a VKT-7 heat meter and a water meter without any modem or wire connection channel. ISSUE: WALK-BY METER READING Every month, engineers had to go around all the houses to manually connect to the device located in the basement of each house and upload the data for the past month. In the event of a malfunction of the devices, the engineer of the Management Company could not quickly connect to the device and obtain the necessary information. SOLUTION The solution paired a Vega-Absolute LoRaWAN ® gateway with analytical software so that the management company for the city of Sibay, Russia could remotely automate data collection from heat and water meters. To implement the project, four Vega BS-2.2 gateways were used, which completely covered the area where the client's facilities are located and provided the foundation for further scaling of the system. A Vega SI-13-232 converter was connected to each VKT-7 heat meter to organize remote data collection. Water meters were also connected via pulse I/O. All data from the devices are stored in a reliable data center. To date, this case has been successfully implemented and is actively used by the management company in Sibay, Russia.
