17 #HERSTORY Shanoo Maniar What are three things that your colleagues don't know about you? • The talkative me can happily be silent 24/7 for 10 days of meditation. • I love to play pranks. • I find myself unconsciously mimicking people immediately after our conversation ends. How have your career goals changed since entering the workforce and progressed through your career? I always wanted to be a teacher. Hence, as a computer science engineer, despite an offer from a top IT company, I joined a leading IT training organization. However, within six months, I quit that opportunity to join the earlier offer as I was not at peace teaching certain subjects that I was not proficient at. I stayed for more than 23 years with this IT organization playing various roles such as Developer, Team Lead, Delivery Operations Head of the product unit, and later the first Chief Privacy Officer role. Eventually, I went back to delivery where my heart is and joined SEI India as Service Delivery Head. My career trajectory taught me to have a plan but also to be flexible for detours. What accomplishments (personal and/or professional) are you most proud of? Most of my decorated professional titles came by invitation. Many earnest compliments came from associates with whom I had professional disagreements. My kids (adults now!) have grown up to be good human beings. What's your best advice for women entering the workforce? Dream big, work hard and smart, network, don't look down on any role, and most importantly, be integral—success will follow. Our career life span will be full of peak and trough cycles—be humble during peaks and resilient during troughs. If someone wrote your story, what would the title be? "Unstoppable." If you could have a superpower, what would you choose and why? I would erase subconscious/conscious diversity-related bias from all human being's brains. This would lead to empathy for each other and make our individual/collective achievements bigger. What is your biggest goal for 2023?
