The Economic Benefits of a Tech-Savvy Taiwanese Workforce Taiwan is going digital—from the way we work, to the way we live. We are seeing information technology drive significant transformation across the world at the individual, organization, and macroeconomic level. To study these dynamics, Gallup and AWS have conducted one of the largest international surveys to date on digital skills. The study shows that digital skills are providing immense economic value to Taiwanese employers and workers, raising gross domestic product (GDP), boosting revenue growth and innovation, and increasing wages and job satisfaction. Workers who use some level of digital skills in their job were segmented into three categories: • basic digital skills (e.g., email, word processing, social media posting) • intermediate digital skills (e.g., drag-and-drop website design, troubleshooting applications, data analysis) • advanced digital skills (e.g., cloud architecture or maintenance, software or application development, artificial intelligence and machine learning) Top Takeaways: 1 Digital fluency yields big economic benefits Raising GDP: Advanced digital skills raise Taiwan's GDP by an estimated USD $91 billion 1 annually, and global GDP by USD $6.3 trillion due to the increased income and productivity of workers. 2 Workers see career benefits and higher job satisfaction Career benefits: 98% of Taiwanese workers who completed digital skills training in the past year say their career has experienced at least one positive benefit as a result. Higher salaries: The average Taiwanese worker with advanced digital skills earns USD $59,831 more annually than similar workers who do not use digital skills. Advanced digital skills increase Taiwan's annual GDP by an estimated USD $91 billion. Advanced digital skills increase global GDP by an estimated USD $6.3 trillion.
