As the Revised Payment Services Directive (PSD2) comes into force, banks are required to make customer account information available via APIs to authorized industry stakeholders. Equally, as the new era of open banking dawns, nimble financial technology (fintech) start-ups have been quick to seize the opportunities to deliver more responsive and personalized customer services. To comply with the new regulations while avoiding the risk of disruption, future-facing banks are also aiming to launch customer-focused, loyalty-driving offerings on the digital channel. Groupe BPCE knew that embracing an API-driven architecture for internaland customer-facing services would unlock a wide range of benefits. In addition to minimizing the risk of penalties for noncompliance with PSD2, APIs would make it easier and faster for the bank's development teams to build new services for its customers — nurturing their long-term loyalty. Lifting efficiency to new heights Enabling open banking capabilities also promised to deliver a significant improvement in operational efficiency. Groupe BPCE was formed over several years through the mergers of Caisse d'Epargne and Banque Populaire, a process that had brought multiple systems and process into the expanded group.
