The 2025 Port Authority calendar is available now A Northland tradition since its debut in 1978, the Duluth Seaway Port Authority wall calendar features a spectacular sea- port sunrise and the photography of Adam Bjornberg for 2025. Snapping a streak of aerial drone photo victors dating back to 2021, Bjornberg 's contest-winning entry came the old-fash- ioned way, from his handheld Canon 6D with a 70-200mm lens, on an early morn- ing in July. "I always check the weather forecast the night before I go out, to get a better idea of what to expect," said Bjornberg. "That night, there were forecasts of morning fog, but you never know what Lake Superior will produce. "Getting down to Canal Park about an hour before sunrise, I could already tell conditions were going to be captivating. Several oceangoing vessels were out at anchor, which added to the nautical feel that morning. As the Viking Octantis cruise ship approached, the sun rose above the horizon and the low-level lake fog exploded with color. Sitting along the shoreline, I noticed the two salties (the Federal Beaufort, left, and the Tiberborg) distanced just far enough apart where I could incorporate the lighthouse into the scene. As I lined the North Pier Lighthouse between those two oceangoing freighters, a small fishing boat came into frame, along with some waterfowl. From the lighthouse to the two salties, the fishing boat and waiting for the cruise ship, I thought this photo was a great visual showcase of the different watercrafts that come through Duluth's ship canal."
