SCORE JOURNAL 28 FACTORY UTV WARS - POLARIS Heger didn't only drive Polaris UTVs in his childhood and teen years though, he experienced most of the platforms in his quest to find the right make and model for him. "In the past I raced for another manufacturer," he said. "I was trying to find the right vehicle. I'm fortunate now to be driving for Polaris with the SCI Motorsports team. I know that other manufacturers have come out with new things, but that competition is good for everyone who loves UTVs. I live out in the country and the early Polaris Ranger at the time was very utilitarian. I picked up trash cans and did, at best, 10 miles-per- hour around the family farm. They have changed so much since then." Fast forward to today. Heger pointed out the speed differences between old and new. "The speed gain is incredible. Some models of Polaris UTVs can do over 100 mph through the desert. Polaris still offers faster versions of the utility UTV that they call the full-cab Expedition. It even has air conditioning and has amazing performance for a utility UTV. The progression from years ago is huge. I'd like to try to race it." • Heger won the SCORE Pro UTV Open Championship in 2024 in the RZR Pro R first generation race model JACK WRIGHT NMEDIA3
