FACTORY UTV WARS - POLARIS
For those of us who remember SCORE racing back in the 90's, when
manufacturer's teams were competing in the newly formed SCORE Trophy Truck
category, the battles between the SXS manufacturers were heating up to those
levels. Much of it stems from Polaris' RZR Factory Racing program stepping up as
serious business, with the SCi Motorsports team putting together a top crew of
mechanics, managers, and the latest batch of young, but experienced, SXS racers
on the planet. "The SCi Motorsports team and their involvement is a huge effort,"
says Scheuerell. "It's not too difficult to build a few prototypes and go race, but to
start winning almost immediately takes focus, discipline, and a strong team. The
team at Polaris and the SCi Motorsports are alike in this way, and we've formed a
strong partnership over the past three years where we treat SCi as an integrated
part of the Polaris team, and vice versa. We've taught SCi about engineering,
testing, and systems-type thinking while they have taught us a ton about the
logistics and art of desert racing."
"We're now producing the Pro R Factory machines for sale to any racer that
is interested. Let me tell you – that is by far the hardest part of this program for
Polaris. I think it was Elon Musk who said, "Prototypes are easy, production is hard"
– I couldn't agree more!"
