FACTORY UTV WARS - POLARIS
MacCachren reflected on the past SXSs he's raced by saying that yesterday's
"80-percent" was much different than today's 80-percent on the throttle. "It is
much, much faster today at that same level," he added. In the past, before he
signed with Polaris and the SCI Motorsports team, MacCachren says he used to
walk around tech inspection with his dad, legendary SCORE Baja Champion Rob
MacCachren, and inspect every last nut and bolt on them. "It was a pretty slow
grind back in 2016," said the young MacCachren. "UTV performance was being
upgraded at a snail's pace, and it wasn't until Polaris stepped up that things started
to happen."
Since then, MacCachren and the Factory Polaris team have dominated the
SCORE Pro UTV Open Class with no signs of slowing down. The team won the
championship with the first-generation race car and is dominating with the second-
generation race car. So, what's the next step? "The Polaris is smaller (shorter
wheelbase) than the current Can-Am Maverick R and I could see it getting bigger in
the future," said MacCachren. "But there's an advantage of being smaller because
you can use more of the road to your ability. It's just my opinion and not based on
anything at the manufacturer level. The Hondas and Kawasaki's are all smaller, too.
Maybe Polaris will get bigger in the next few years, I don't know. That's just based
on where it's been. Maybe we're already there."
