75 Rider Skills Required at this level The coach should confirm the rider's understanding of and ability to perform all skills identified under Starter through Intermediate Level Show Jumping Skills. The Advanced level rider should be responsible for the complete preparation of their horse at this level, on the flat and over fences, including the horse's strength for jumping and galloping, overall fitness, suppleness, flexibility, and their understanding and ability to execute advanced footwork. To that end, the Advanced level rider should develop strategies to improve and strengthen their horse's jumping technique by: • Employing in routine practice varied gymnastic jumping exercises, uniquely designed to improve each horse's bal- ance, agility, rhythm, bascule, understanding, and confi- dence. • Knowing when and how to shorten or lengthen distances between poles and gymnastics to produce specific results in different horses they ride. The Advanced level rider should be responsible for their own strength, fitness, and proficiency for level-required skills, including: • Maintaining a secure, supple independent seat in various jumping positions throughout gymnastic exercises and all jumping at level-appropriate height. • Having the skill and knowledge to correctly produce all as- pects of the horse's rhythm, balance, energy, speed, stride length and line of direction throughout all jumping of gym- nastic exercises and level-appropriate courses. • Instinctual reactions to adjust balance and stride length, to improve or pinpoint the take-off distance or in reaction to what they are feeling in any given moment. • Utilizing qualified, experienced "eyes on the ground" to support their training strategies and progression. Specifically, for the show jumping phase of competition, Advanced level riders should be able to: • Ride a variety of Advanced, CCI4* and 5* show jumps and combinations to a height of 4'1", with attention to riding at a greater speed than at the Intermediate Level. • Walk, analyze, warm up for and ride a plan over a level-ap- propriate course. • Self-evaluate their performance over a level appropriate course of show jumps.
