The Pittman-Robertson Act, officially known as the
Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration Act of 1937, is
a landmark piece of U.S. legislation that provides a
critical funding mechanism for state wildlife agencies.
The core purpose of the Act is to fund projects

improvement of wildlife habitat, as well as wildlife
management research, and hunter education/safety
programs.
The revenue comes from a dedicated federal excise
tax (collected from manufacturers) on:
Everyone benefits because hunters and
recreational shooters pay the tax, and all citizens
benefit from the resulting healthy wildlife
populations and conserved habitats.
10% tax on handguns.
