Blank Avoidance
Illinois, Purdue and Northwestern are all trying to avoid a
winless conference season. Here's a list of the number of times
conference schools have gone winless, dating back 60 seasons
to 1953:
Veteran of a recent
tour of duty in
Afghanistan, Adam
Hartwick is front and
center at the coin
toss. Like Purdue the
week before, Penn
State had its Military
Appreciation Day, and
Hartwick provided an
emotional moment
when it was disclosed
that after suffering his
debilitating injuries, he
promised his mom he
would walk again.
This Week In Purdue History
Nov. 22, 1963 • Like the rest of the world, the Purdue football team learns of the tragic news
from Dallas that President John F. Kennedy has been assassinated. The Boilermakers, who were
getting ready for the Old Oaken Bucket clash in Bloomington, find out the game has been postponed for a week. When the game is finally played, Purdue ekes out a 21-15 win to finish in fourth
place in the Big Ten.
Nov. 22, 1980 • On senior day for Mark Herrmann and Co., the Boilermakers win
one of the classic games in the series. Coach Lee Corso's team pulls to within a point
when his son Steve catches a touchdown pass with 17 seconds to go. Corso decides
to go for the victory, but linebacker Mike Marks steps in front of quarterback Tim Clifford's pass to secure a 24-23 win for Purdue.
Nov. 22, 2008 • Coach Joe Tiller bids farewell to the Boilermaker fans in front of
a capacity crowd in Ross-Ade Stadium, and his team gives him a going away gift of
scoring early and often en route to a 62-10 victory over Indiana. The victory ties the
largest Purdue victory margin in Ross-Ade Stadium history.
* The Boilermakers
finished 0-8
in the Big Ten
in 1993.
