MAY 2014 ■ 85 ■ FOOTBALL RECRUITING Phillips is a 6-1, 195-pounder who also has offers from North Carolina and Wake Forest. He could play receiver but is pro- jected to be a safety in college. Phillips took an overnight visit to NCSU in late April, sparking a potential commitment watch on the Internet, but he did not pull the trigger. Nevertheless, NC State is believed to be the leader for the three-star prospect. The Pack may be in a similar position with Morehead, a 6-0, 190-pounder who is rated three stars and the No. 61 receiver nation- ally in the 2015 class by Rivals.com. Morehead has narrowed his focus to NC State, Wake Forest and East Carolina, despite earlier reported offers from Clemson, North Carolina and Tennessee. Last fall, he had 40 tackles, nine passes broken up and two picks on defense while collecting 289 yards receiving and two scores on offense. ■ Cornerback Very little is known about the recruit- ment of Mike Hughes, a 5-10, 160-pounder from New Bern (N.C.) High, but he is a priority for NCSU, which is likely to take just one corner in the 2015 class. Hughes moved over to offense last year and played as an option quarterback, but corner is his future position. He is highly recruited, reporting offers from Auburn, Clemson, Florida, NC State, North Caro- lina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Vir- ginia Tech, among others. Rivals.com rates Hughes as a four-star tal- ent and the No. 25 cornerback nationally. ■ For regular reports on NC State football recruiting plus videos of Wolfpack commitments and targets visit TheWolfpacker.com. High, thanks in part to an overnight visit he made to Raleigh in late April. PHOTO COURTESY RIVALS.COM 80-85.FB Recruiting.indd 85 4/29/14 3:14 PM
