not today. now Tv has become
"social", physically you may be
alone but through time and space
thousands of like-minded souls are
watching the same programme(s)
and tweeting about it at the
same time.
Social Tv, as this "phenomenon"
is called, has changed the simple act
of watching Tv into an "interactive
experience, one that connects us
with others".
According to a report by American
global information and measurement
company, nielsen, 84% of
smartphone and tablet owners say
they use their devices as second-
screens while watching Tv at the
same time, with an astounding one
million Americans turning to Twitter
as their second screen companion.
Additionally, they are using
smartphones and tablets in ways
which are natural extensions of the
programmes they are watching,
like looking up information about
the characters and plot lines, or
researching and purchasing products
and services advertised just
minutes before, the nielsen report
notes.
Tablet owners are also more
likely to use their devices as
a second screen for all of the
activities (with the exception of
email/texting friends about the
programme).
And just to show how wide-
reaching Social Tv has become
here are some of the biggest social
moments on Tv from a nielsen
Social report:
In days of old when you sat in front of a TV to watch your
favourite shows after a hard day's work, you were watching
it alone… really alone.
