Prisbe said the relation- ship between the city's junior team and the youth has pushed growth. SCHEELS IcePlex is also a great arena for spectators. Each rink includes bleacher seating along with a mezza- nine. The main rink, Furniture Mart Feature Rink, seats 1,221. The Zueger Family Leadership Rink has room for 395 spectators, and the Stampede's practice rink, also known as the Bill Sexton Family Rink, holds 172 people. "It's night and day compared to what we had before," Prisbe said. "Sioux Falls Ice and Rec was a tiny rink with a tiny lobby and not a place for people to hang out. But now, every night of the week, the lobby is packed and our park- ing lot is overflowing. It's a warm, comfy place to hang out." Sanford Sports Complex SCHEELS IcePlex is just one of four sport facilities on the Sanford Sports Complex. Along with the ice arena sits a fieldhouse, basketball facility and indoor tennis facility. Athletes are given one giant playground. "To be a kid growing up in Sioux Falls has to be pretty great these days," said Prisbe. "We have all of these facilities right on the same property. We can go have our varsity hockey players do dryland at the fieldhouse or shoot some hoops. We have it all right here." Though SCHEELS IcePlex is located on the sports complex, the rink is operated through the Ice Sports Association on its own. The Ice Sports Association, a non- profit corporation, makes the rink privately owned and operated. While SCHEELS IcePlex is not directly affiliated with the city of Sioux Falls, Prisbe said making it a part of the community's Sanford Sports Complex was the cherry on top. "Just to have this sports complex out here and to have two ice sheets yearlong, with camps coming in and out, it completes the three-sixty from what was taking place in Sioux Falls," Prisbe said. "The sports — figure skating, curling, hockey — are only going to grow.
