"People love what they do here." When asked what he thinks makes NSMT so special, Hanney says, "Probably the history and our ability to continue the legacy of great productions. I know that people love the grounds, they love the amenities here, but if the show's not great, the night is not the same." He also adds that the theatre is a big contributor to Bev- erly's economy and the North Shore in general. Hanney's mission is to keep the theatre open, which means many of the programs that used to run, like its educational initiatives, have had to fall by the wayside. His hope is that one day, they will be financially secure enough to run such programs again. This year's production schedule remains a mystery for the general public, as Hanney does not announce it too far in advance. "I love telling people from the stage what the upcoming shows are and seeing their reac- tions. Nobody knows until they hear it here. I don't put up posters or anything. I love seeing if I called it right." But if it's anything like what the theatre has produced over the past 60 years, it's sure to be a crowd-pleaser.
