Tips for Removing In-Ice Logos These in-ice logos will need to be removed and stored in a dry place if you are going to re-install next season or for the next special event. 1) Once again, read the manufacturer's directions on removing the logos. 2) Shave down the ice with the ice resurfacer or edger to a safe distance over the logo. Usually about 1/4 of an inch will be fine. 3) Logos that are meant to be re-installed are typically very strong and will not rip or tear easily. You can use a hammer to break the ice over the logo and get one edge exposed. Now you can grip the logo and lift it up, breaking the ice over the logo. Be very careful of slipping and falling, as you are standing on ice. Also you should be wearing safety glasses as the ice will break up into small chips and fly around the area. 4) Hot water will also work well for taking these logos out. Melt the ice around and over the top of the logo to make it easy to remove. Once again, remember you are standing on ice so the trip-and-fall hazard is a factor. 5) Once your logo has been removed, it must be rinsed and washed off to ensure that the logo is clean of any debris and impurities. This is best done with cold water. 6) Once cleaned, the logo should be laid on a flat surface to allow it to dry. After drying, the logo can be rolled up and stored until the next installation. Please take the time to evaluate anything that is going into your ice surface. In-ice logos are constantly being improved, and new materials are available every season. Do your research, follow the manufacturer's directions and you will have a great-looking sheet of ice. ★ may/June 2007 R I N K M A G A Z I N E 49 The center ice logo at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado for a 2007 NCAA Western Regional Event.
