2017 SEMA Show SCORE Baja Experience Presented by BFGOODRICH TIRES SCORE Gives The Automotive Aftermarket Industry A Taste Of Baja Excitement By Dan Sanchez Photos by Get Some photo and dan sanchez As many SCORE race fans anticipate the 50th Annual BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 1000, the automotive aftermarket industry got a sample of the excitement and thunder of SCORE Trophy Trucks, at the 2017 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. The annual trade show for the automotive aftermarket and performance industry, ran October 31st through November 3rd, 2017 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, where SCORE was once again the featured off-road market area, encompassing 70,000 square feet as the SEMA SCORE Baja 1000 Experience. “We can’t thank SEMA enough for again providing SCORE with this incredible opportunity to once again showcase SCORE and the world’s greatest desert racers,” said Roger Norman, CEO/President of SCORE. SEMA Show attendees and exhibitors got an opportunity to see what it’s like during a SCORE race, like the Baja 1000, with 32 SCORE Trophy Trucks and exhibits from off-road and desert racing companies stood together to showcase everything about desert racing. At the center of the SCORE Baja 1000 Experience, was a huge SCOREvision LED screen that played race videos that captured the attention of SEMA Show attendees. The LED screen was over the center stage, where a SCORE press conference led by SCORE Marketing Manager Jim Ryan, explained the various activities scheduled for the week, including the SCORE Baja 1000 Qualifying presented by BFGoodrich Tires for SCORE Trophy Truck and SCORE Trophy Truck Legend classes, and the Start Draw for the race for all other classes. Popular off-road desert race drivers were in attendance during the SCORE Baja 1000 Experience, who spoke with attendees and signed autographs. Among some of them were two-time SCORE Baja 1000 race winner BJ Baldwin, four-time SCORE Baja 1000 race winner Rob MacCachren, Bryce Menzies, Robby Gordon, Gus Vildosola Sr, Billy Wilson, Luke McMillin, and many others. The SCORE Baja 1000 Experience also had numerous displays from a variety of off-road racing manufacturers, including King Shocks, Raceline Wheels, BFGoodrich Tires, and others. Textron Off-Road had a display of their performance Wildcat X UTVs and included a short off-road course where attendees could ride along over rocky terrain, and catch some air over a hard-packed dirt section of the course. BFGoodrich Tires Pit-Crew Challenge One of the highlights of the SCORE Baja 1000 Experience during the SEMA Show, was the BFGoodrich Tires Pit Crew Challenge. Located in the center of the exhibit, teams of two people were able to get a taste of adrenaline during a desert race pit stop, by competing against the clock to change BFGoodrich Baja T/A® KR2 race tires on a SCORE Baja Chenowth Pre-Runner buggy. Each day during the SEMA Show, the team with the fastest time won a set of BFGoodrich tires. The Pit Crew Challenge and BFGoodrich Tires’ involvement was part of the company’s 41-year celebration of racing history with SCORE International. As the official race sponsor of the 50th BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 1000, the company has earned more overall and class wins in SCORE Baja racing than any other tire manufacturer. “BFGoodrich’s position as a leader in the off-road culture and desert-racing discipline is a result of the commitment to product development in Baja and the right partnerships that have enabled that success,” said Chris Baker, Motorsports Director, BFGoodrich and Michelin North America. “Our commitment to motorsports, in a variety of disciplines, is critical to our brand. From the foundation laid by Sal Fish, when he first convinced our brand to come to Baja, to the current leadership under Roger Norman, with an ambitious vision for desert racing, SCORE has fostered a competitive environment that allows brands like ours to learn and prove our capabilities. We are proud to announce our continuing partnership with SCORE and thrilled to put our name on the iconic 50th running of the Baja 1000.” Cruise To The Las Vegas Motor Speedway On Tuesday, October 31st, the SCORE Baja 1000 Experience roared to life as 34 SCORE Trophy Trucks started their engines and proceeded to line up in front of the Las Vegas Convention Center during the SEMA Show, and cruised down Las Vegas Boulevard to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. SEMA Show attendees were amazed at the raw horsepower and sound of the vehicles as they exited the Las Vegas Convention Center show grounds and roared their way towards the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the SCORE Baja 1000 Qualifying Presented by BFGoodrich Tires. (See more of the qualifying on the next pages). VIP Showing Of Dust 2 Glory The following day, after the SCORE Baja 1000 Qualifying Presented by BFGoodrich Tires, SEMA Show attendees also got an opportunity for an exclusive showing of the Dust 2 Glory documentary. On the evening of Wednesday, November 1st, any SEMA Show attendee with an official show badge was able to enter into the SCORE Baja 1000 Experience and watch the film prior to its official opening in theaters. The film is a sequel to the first Dust To Glory documentary, which was created by Dana Brown and premiered in 2005. The film exposed the adventure and intensity of racing in Baja and launched the careers of many of today’s racers. More than a decade later, the Dust 2 Glory sequel, is scheduled to premiere nationwide in theaters on December 6th. The documentary took 18 months to film and chronicles the entire SCORE 2016 World Desert Championship season, offering a unique perspective on off-road racing and a behind-the-scenes look at various racers and teams as they prepared for the 50th BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 1000.
