JOURNAL TRUCKGAUGE Trucking adds 2,500 jobs in Nov. Indicators New orders for manufactured goods increased 0.8% in October from September. Excluding transportation equipment, new orders increased 1.3%. 1,340 Housing starts in October were 3.6% above the September estimate and 41.9% above October 2011 to their highest level since July 2008. Permits for future residential construction were down 2.7% from September but 29.8% above October 2011. 1,320 Spending on construction in October was 1.4% higher than in September and 9.6% higher than in October 2011. Trucking employment is up by 124,200 jobs, or 10.1%, from the bottom in March 2010, but it remains 95,000 jobs, or 6.5%, below the peak in January 2007. As reported in the November 2012 edition of the Randall-Reilly MarketPulse Report, the Carrier Sentiment Index for November was 6.22 ��� up from the 6.12 reported for October. The index assesses the month on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the carrier���s worst month and 10 being the best. The index level for carriers with more than 100 power units was 6.33 (up from 6.00 in October), while the level for those with 10 to 100 power units was 5.97 (down from 6.39).
