hile researching the State of the Industry
report for the 2019 USIndoor Conference,
I came up with several conclusions about the
industry, including some thoughts about the
appropriate longer-term state of your business.
Having been involved in many business ventures
and eventual sales, I firmly believe that significant
development and operational strategy is only the
groundwork for a more critical long-term plan and
exit strategy.
I always buy or develop a business to make
money. I try to do an excellent job to make a
profit and on selling the business's
products or services. Then, my goal is to put the
company in position to sell for the ultimate
end-game profit.
As I'm writing this article, the Dow Jones Industrial
Average is over a historic 26,000 level. Several mutual
funds have earned over 10% for several years, and
many funds have earned more than 14%. Maybe you
have a business with a net value of $10,000,000. At
a 15% annual return, you could potentially be earning
$1,500,000 with that $10 million invested even
conservatively in some solid investments. If you are
alternatively earning a couple hundred thousand on a
