murphy's Law dan murphy Red, White And Blue In The Face Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly had far fewer reasons to erupt on the sidelines in 2012 … that is until his team began falling hopelessly behind in the BCS National Championship Game against Alabama. F uchsia is probably the best way to describe it. Before he fell into the good graces of Notre Dame fans, before he brought the Irish back to the brink of a national title, Brian Kelly jumped face first into a time-honored tradition of beloved American coaches. Turnovers and missed opportunities sent Kelly's blood rushing to his head like a ready-to-blow volcano in 2011, coloring his Vesuvian visage in nonhuman hues. The coach drew plenty of ire that season for his well-documented sideline tirades, but that was mostly because Notre Dame was struggling. When our teams are winning, we love a coach with steam shooting from his ears. The coach slightly crazed with photo by lon horwedel passion is an archetypal hero for sports fans. The looser his hinges, the better. The angriest moments are the ones we always remember best. This spring marks the 30th anniversary of Chicago manager Lee Elia's profanity-laced opus on Cubs' fans. Elia spent four decades in and out of Major League Baseball, but his thought on "day baseball" will appear on his tombstone. It's been almost six years and three coach of the year awards since Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy's "I'm a man! I'm 40!" rant, but that's still his calling card in Stillwater.
