WHALE WATCHING IN ENSENADA Every winter the Mexican Peninsula of Baja California plays host to an awe-inspiring migration of thousands of whales. From December to April Ensenada is one of the best whale-watching spots, many species of these gentle giants make the long journey down to the Baja Peninsula to find new mates and give birth away from cold arctic waters. Baja is known for having the greatest concentration of migrating marine mammals in the entire world. By joining the whale watching trips, you will have front row seats to the action! From the boat you can admire the beautiful scene of these whales in all their splendor, playing with their babies in the open sea. Some whales put on an amazing show as they search for new mates – breaching out of the water in a thunderous splash. Along with seeing the largest creatures on earth, you will be able to appreciate the natural reserve of Todos Santos Island, which is unpopulated, only some old lighthouses and some fish farms are seen in the area, however it is the site of tournaments of international surfing by having large waves ideal to attract hundreds of surfers each year. Among the species that you can observe are seals and sea lions, some dolphins that swim nearby and a diversity of birds such as seagulls, pelicans and cormorants that fly over the island. The trip lasts approx. 4 hours and the cost varies according to the number of people or type of boat. There’s plenty of authorized boats. Don’t miss out on this unique experience! Be sure to bring: hat, sunglasses, camera, batteries, sunscreen and layers. Mornings start cool, but afternoons warm up.
