The facility also implemented a new
theme, paying tribute to Maryland-born
Matthew Henson, the first Black explorer—
and perhaps the first human—to reach the
North Pole with a Northern Lights LED
system that changes colors randomly inside
and outside of the facility. Plans to add art-
work of Henson are also forthcoming.
"Just the whole design and glow of the
building is amazing," said Smith, who
notes they also plan to have some of the
highest quality of ice, with experienced ice
technicians and state-of-the-art compres-
sion and dehumidification systems to help
maintain the quality. "We kept the same
name from the old building, the same font
on the sign, but we wanted to make this a
new home for the Tucker Road Ducks, and
hopefully many more programs and orga-
nizations to come."
