WEILAND GRABS A TOUGH WIN Austen Weiland Drove Solo To Win The Pro UTV FI Class By Dan Sanchez Photos by Get Some Photo After a second-place finish at the SCORE San Felipe 250, and a sixth-place finish at the SCORE Baja 500, Austen Weiland in his No. 2954 Can-Am Maverick finally took a class win at the 2nd SCORE Baja 400 Presented by VP Racing Fuels. Weiland decided to drive the course by himself with Justin Wragg as his navigator, and their plan came together. “We had two scheduled stops and I ran it myself this time, and it worked out good,” said Weiland. “The course was rough, sandy, twisty, tight, and everything you could ever imagine.” The Pro UTV FI class has championship-level competitors, which also added to the difficulty of this race. “Our class is one of the toughest,” said Weiland. “There is always a stack of people out in front of you. We were battling with Phil Blurton all day. We were four minutes ahead, then it was two minutes ahead, and we kept battling to stay in the lead. We didn’t have any flats with our BFGoodrich Tires and the Raceline Wheels were light and strong. The car stayed together and we maintained a good pace.” The win puts Weiland in a good spot for a chance at a class championship, but Brandon Schueler in the No. 2919 Polaris RZR and Blurton in the No. 2944 Can-Am are also within striking distance. For Weiland, he will need a first-place win at the 53rd BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 1000 Presented by 4 Wheel Parts to secure a 2021 Season Championship. “We’re ready for the SCORE Baja 1000, and now with a first starting position, we can push through the traffic ahead of us early and get clean air,” he said. “We’re excited to see what happens at the race and see where we end up in points.” Check out Austen Weiland’s current stats on SCORE’s Fan Pages:
