The Remuda | Fall 2023 Edition 10 Symposium RECAP The 2023 Summer Symposium was a lively combination of practitioners from around the region, combined with our largest ever representation of veterinary students, numerous vendors with a great variety of products and services to offer, extra-curricular outings, hands on learning and as always, and exciting cutting edge lectures from some of the experts in our field. 172 veterinarians joined us in person for the three-day meeting and 72 veterinary students were on hand to learn and volunteer their time to help with the meeting. Dr. Dean Hendrickson, Dr. Carrie Finno, and Dr. Katie Garrett delivered keynote lectures and taught hands-on wet labs for attendees. Dr. Josh Donnell and Dr. Ali Broyles lectured and taught a wet lab on pre-purchase exams in the western performance horse and second-career Thoroughbred. We also had various lecturers that focused on business topics, how-to lecturers from local practitioners and a lively discussion about internships and their current state in equine practice. This year we had the pleasure of having MG Biologics host our golf tournament and we received great feedback on that event. Golfers enjoyed an early morning round at Hawks Creek Golf Club that was complete with a shuttle ride, food and drink, and fun competition. Winners of the golf competitions were 'Best 4some Score' - Pete Hale, Ryan Lewis, Mike Major, Bryant Craig. Longest Drive - Ryan Mims. Longest Put - Luke Thompson and closest to Pin - Brenden Benson. MG Biologics had prizes for the winners and a fun check presentation was made to them during the Gala on Friday evening by MG Biologics CEO, Sarah Meyer Thompson. 2023 For the first time at this Symposium, we partnered with V.E.T. to offer a wet lab for our student volunteers. We utilized V.E.T. board members as well as TEVA directors and members to teach students about ultrasounds and suturing in multiple stationed wet labs. This was said to be a highlight of the Symposium for many of our student volunteers. | Past President, Dr. Mike Martin instructing students during the Student Wet Lab. |
