"It was working before so what is the problem?" said South Crosby Councilor Carr. There has been some dissension on council over the wide variations in what some councilors get paid for 'circumstances'. Up until now, they have been able to charge $50 for meetings, other than regular council meetings, and social gatherings they attend as a councilor. "It more clearly defines what the honorarium is for-when council is all together or as a special council meeting," said CAO Bob Maddocks. A new clause in the bylaw clarifies the purpose of the bylaw: "The overall objective of the bylaw is to fairly compensate elected members of council in the discharge of their duties, on behalf of council, while at the same time recognize and acknowledge the unique and varied needs, population, area and demands of each Ward within the Township of Rideau Lakes," A committee which included Maddocks, Mayor Ron Holman, and •Continued on page 3 Township boosts councillors' honorarium by $1500 while cutting back chargeable meetings By Margaret Brand The Review-Mirror Township of Rideau Lakes councilors voted seven to two to amend the bylaw governing the remuneration of councilors for meetings, circumstances and mileage for council business. The new bylaw, which could be passed next month, would add an extra $1500 to the honorarium to replace previous rules which allowed councilors to charge for council's committee meetings.
