MIAMI LIVING 33 CITY NEWS Forbes Magazine recently called Miami 'America's Cleanest City' for its good air quality, vast green spaces, clean drinking water, clean streets, and citywide recycling program. Rock on Miami! For a delicious lunch that you will rave about for years to come, head to Florida International University's School of Hospitality and Tourism Management for affordable fine dining complete with white tablecloths, candles, and sangria—for a mere $15. The food is prepped, cooked, and served by student chefs. Delectable choices include Black Mussels, Chicken Francaise, Pine Nut-Crusted Corvina, and scrumptious Tiramisu, for the finale. The Biscayne Bay Campus is located at 3000 Northeast 151 st St, 33181. For information, call: (305) 919-4500. Reservations required. The FIU Park Campus recently presented a splendid production of "Spring's Awakening," directed by Professor Phillip M. Church, Head of Performance, one of the most respected directors in the region. Additionally, he's an accomplished equity actor who has performed at many venues such as GableStage and the New Theatre. His students speak highly of him. For information, call: (305) 348-2895. My parents spent their honeymoon at the Fontainebleau Resort, so the recent grand reopening of this opulent hotel that's home to the rich and famous holds a special place in my heart. Thriving at 441 Collins Avenue since 1954, the party started off with a fashion show at the Jackie Gleason Theater. The crowd of attending celebrities is too numerous to mention, but the scoop is that the classy and talented Anthony Michael Hall had to wait thirty minutes for a glass of champagne. The magnificent duo of Gloria and Emilio Estefan were also present. Call (305) 538-2000 for your reservation. National Pancake Day dates back to the 1500s, when the English prepped for fasting during Lent. IHOPs everywhere celebrate this day by giving out free short-stacks of buttermilk pancakes on February 24th. All that is asked in return is for customers to make donations to raise money for local Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. IHOP is hoping to set a new donations record of $1 million. To find an IHOP near you, visit: www.IHOPPancakeDay.com. Chief Judge Cindy Lederman of the Miami-Dade Juvenile Court was honored by her colleagues for her Adopt-A- Bear campaign to help heal and give hope to South Florida's abused and neglected children. The Capital Grille joined CBS4's Michele Gillen in the Neighbors 4 Neighbors community campaign to inspire donations. To help, visit: www.adoptabear.org. Torben Riise and Jørgen Nielsen founded Celeste Music in early 2008 and have created an amazing musical called Galileo The Musical, a story told from the viewpoint of Galileo's two daughters. The musical is a blend of classical, rock, and ballad music mixed with Italian liturgical music from 1600-1700. Riise is the songwriter and has cowritten and coproduced two cabarets in his native Denmark. To listen to songs, visit: www.cme-miami.com and www.galileothemusical.com.
