B
aja, Mexico, has
long been the
quintessential
vision of true-grit
desert racing. Its
pairing of serpentine
mountain two-tracks, endless
sandy beaches, and skinny-
pedal-to-the-metal playas
triggers the rush of adrenaline
and evokes emotions quelled
only by speed. The early
days of competition brought
adventure-seekers and
entrepreneurs, and the steeds
that faired them south toward
La Paz either survived to
race again, or surrendered to
the brutal reality that is Baja.
