Slow Pitch: An EdTech Design ThinkTank in collaboration with EdTech Action Monday, March 7 | 12:30pm – 6:00pm JW Marriott Salon 3 Join an interactive pitch session where startups, mentors and the audience will dialogue and hone startups' prod- ucts so that they will transform learning and penetrate K-12 school markets. Selected EdTech startups will provide dem- os, evidence of real/potential impact, and marketing/moneti- zation plans prior to SXSWedu. At the summit, we'll cultivate a focused, generative dialogue between the startups, the 10+ educator, research and business mentors, and the audi- ence in demos, targeted mentoring and pitch style discus- sions. Audience participation will be curated throughout with Twitter, polls and open-mic opps. This design thinktank will help emerging EdTech advance and innovate. Moving From Privacy to Trust in collaboration with CoSN Monday, March 7 | 12:30pm – 3:30pm JW Marriott Salon 4 Concerns around the privacy of student data have been rising in recent years. Educators are increasingly on the defensive as parents believe too much data is collected about their children, it is not secure and too often inappro- priately used for commercial gain. Trust is at the heart of the privacy debate. Last year the Student Data Principles were endorsed by 40 education associations. Learn how we can build on the Principles through better educator training , im- proved review of education apps, clearer vendor agreements and building an ambitious "seal" validating trusted learning environments. Then participate in an interactive forum on what else is needed. Designing an Innovative Future for Early Learning in collaboration with the Institute for Child Success Tuesday, March 8 | 11:00am - 4:00pm JW Marriott Salon 1 The scandal of early learning is that while we know serving our youngest children is the gateway to lifelong success, the early childhood system is too fragmented to deliver innovation at scale. We have the brain science that shows the potential for changing kids' lives, and we have learning methods that are proving successful, for a few, but we strug- gle to imagine how things could be different, very different. Deeper understanding, fresh voices, new relationships and entrepreneurial energy is needed to cast a vision for the 30-year future for young children in America. A committed group of creative leaders is needed to bring the vision to life and to sustain it. Robots, Robots Everywhere! – The Musical in collaboration with Paramount Academy of the Arts Tuesday, March 8 | 11:00am – 2:00pm JW Marriott Salon 2 Join the Paramount Academy for the Arts and Science in a Suitcase for a three hour intensive dedicated to the roboARTS program, a new partnership combining robotics and the performing arts. During this session we will take attendees on the STEAM Train as we explore the parallels between the creative writing and the engineering design processes. Participants will write original stories, program and create robotic characters, compose original songs based on their stories and characters, and share their creations through an informal performance. Students currently en- rolled in the roboARTS program at Lamar Middle School in Austin, TX will be our master mentors. 31 SXSWedu 2016 Conference Overview About Special Programs Program Listings Socials DANNY MATSON BEN COLMAN
