GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED OLUME 26, ISSUE 5 9 Lonnie Greene Boiler Index: Smoking Lonnie Greene's charisma and knowledge are turning the Boilermaker track and field programs into contenders in the Big Ten, and nationally. The fourth-year coach — his athletes frequently call him an "inspiration" — pushed the men to a 13th-place finish at the NCAA indoor championships in March, with 15 points, their highest marks since 2004. The women scored six points, good for 33rd and their second-best finish since 2008. Da'Wan Hunte Boiler Index: Steaming A junior cornerback, Da'Wan Hunte, took home the Most Improved award for defense following the spring, and deservedly so. With the graduation of former starters Anthony Brown and Frankie Williams, Hunte was asked to carry a bigger load this spring, stepping up not only his play but his leadership. He did both. Frequently matched up against DeAngelo Yancey, Hunte held his own — and sometimes more so — showing he could be a lead piece in the fall. New uniforms Boiler Index: Smoldering An hour before its football performance complex groundbreaking April 15, Purdue made an unveiling of another sort, showing off its new uniforms with a social media launch. The new threads are a big hit with fans and players alike. — Kyle Charters Boiler Index Remember When … It's been a decade since Sharon Versyp was announced as the Boilermakers' eighth wom- en's basketball head coach. After a one-year stint at Indiana, Versyp called her- self "the luckiest person in the world right now because my dream has come true" in our April 19, 2005 issue. The former Boilermaker guard, who replaced Kristy Curry, didn't take long to have success, taking Purdue to the Elite Eight in her first season and posting a career-best 31-6 record.
