anielle Cuttino was wearing blue.
When the Purdue junior showed up in Colorado Springs in Febru-
ary, invited to try out for one of the USA volleyball programs, she was
grouped with outside hitters.
Strange, because Cuttino has been one of the best middle blockers in
the country — All-Big Ten and honorable-mention All-America last sea-
son — for the Boilermakers.
"They were surprised," said Cuttino, who is making the transition out-
side during Purdue's spring season. "Because a lot of my friends were at
the tryout and there they divide you by position, with a certain color shirt.
And they saw me in that blue shirt and they were like, 'What's going on?'
and I was like, 'Oh, it's a long story.'
"But when I started playing, it wasn't like, 'What are you doing?' It was,
