L
ast week the Baja Peninsula saw the
running of the 48th SCORE International
Baja 500. When the dust settled, Gustavo
Vildosola Jr. (Tavo) earned a place in the
history books as the 48th overall winner of the
race. But that was not the only achievement
for Tavo. His win at the SCORE Baja 500 also
included his induction into a very exclusive club.
SCORE's oldest and most prestigious events
are the SCORE Baja 1000, SCORE Baja 500 and
SCORE San Felipe 250. Tavo's SCORE Baja 500 win
combined with his two previous SCORE Baja 1000
wins and three consecutive SCORE San Felipe 250
wins means he has completed the "Baja Trifecta"
and is now a winner of the Triple Crown of Baja.
Winning the Triple Crown of Baja is a feat few
have accomplished. The list is short, distinguished,
and includes a who's who of the off-road racing
world. Only eight drivers have claimed four-wheel
overall victories in all three races. Dave Ashley,
Robby Gordon, Rob MacCachren, Andy McMillin,
Scott McMillin, Larry Ragland, Dan Smith and Ivan
Stewart; known as The Elite Eight. We can now add
a ninth member to the list, Gustavo Vildosola Jr.
We spoke with Tavo right after the SCORE Baja
500 to discuss the race, his latest achievement
and what he is setting his sights on next.
