SIMPLE WAYS TO CREATE A LESS STRESSFUL HOME Examine the following nine statements to see how often they occur in your home. If you consistently follow the nine guidelines you will be creating a less stressful home environment for you and your child. 1. MY CHILD GETS ENOUGH EXERCISE AND FREE TIME TO PLAY AND UNWIND Exercise helps keep the body in good shape and be better able to deal with the stresses of normal life. Exercise helps us to stay healthy, and is a great way to relax or work out frustration and anger. Play is very important for children. Play reduces stress, is fun, is a time for learning, teaches such social skills as sharing, taking turns, and working together, and can be physical. HOW OFTEN DOES THIS STATEMENT OCCUR? WAYS TO REACH MORE CONSISTENCY 2. MY CHILD EATS HEALTHY, WELL-BALANCED FOOD Good food is important to keep the body healthy and give it fuel to run efficiently. Children who eat a good breakfast do better at school, learn more and have fewer behavior problems. HOW OFTEN DOES THIS STATEMENT OCCUR? WAYS TO REACH MORE CONSISTENCY 3. MY CHILD HAS INDIVIDUAL TIME WITH PARENTS TO SHARE GOOD TIMES AND PROBLEMS Listening carefully to children helps them to feel understood. Finding time for one-to-one conversation with each child is important for building openness and trust. HOW OFTEN DOES THIS STATEMENT OCCUR? WAYS TO REACH MORE CONSISTENCY
