W hen you mention names such as the Gordon, Steele, Currie, McMillin and Herbst, it's easy to figure out that SCORE International Off-Road Racing is a sport enjoyed by families from all generations. Today, many competitors follow in the footsteps of those that came before them, carrying the torch to win the biggest races in all of off-road motorsports. The current leader in Class 1 Unlimited, is a perfect example of this. Brad Wilson, a 27-year-old from Long Beach, California, is no exception when it comes to family and Baja racing, simply because the sport has been in Wilson's DNA since he was old enough to reach the pedals. Wilson embraces the family spirit of SCORE as a way of staying connected to those that share a passion for the sport. WILSON MOTORSPORTS Wilson grew up around some of racing's most influential competitors. His father Ronny, uncles Randy and Rick were avid motorcycle racers, and his cousin Brian lives, breathes and sleeps buggies. In fact, after dusting off the dirt from this year's 49th SCORE Baja 1000, Thanksgiving in the topic of discussion within the Wilson house will be as much about the latest in transaxles and tire sizes as it is about the turkey and football. "It's just a good family thing to do. We have Christmas and Thanksgiving together and all we talk about is desert racing, and I wouldn't have it any other way," said Wilson. "What really keeps us involved is the family aspect of it. I would never see my cousins and uncles as much as I do if they weren't wrenching with us at Wilson Motorsports and having pit meeting, or going over logistics. We do it all on our own free time after hours, after all, we have a construction company that we run that helps support this hobby, he added." Wilson's current pursuit of a Class 1 Unlimited Championship, and maybe even the SCORE Overall Championship was years in the making. That's because his family has celebrated the victories and brushed off the defeats since the early 1970s, when brothers Rick, Ronny and Randy were racing 067 SCORE JOURNAL
