AUGUST 2017 THE WOLVERINE 35 ish in the 400 meters in 54.70. She ran a wind-aided 23.79 (+2.7m/s) in the 200 meters to finish fourth at the Steve Scott Invitational April 28-29, and also ran 55.23 to finish sixth at 400 meters. Harrison ran a career-best 53.88 in the 400-meter dash to finish second at the Bryan Clay Invitational April 13-14 and ran a career-best 23.64 (+1.5m/s) over 200 meters to finish fourth. She also logged a 54.69 in the 400 meters to finish third at the Battle of the Blues April 1 while also ran legs of the run- ner-up 4x100 and third-place 4x400 relays. She additionally ran 11.95 (+1.5m/s) in the 100-meter dash to finish fourth at the Pac-12 vs. Big Ten Challenge March 24-25 while placing eighth in the 200 meters. Improving times on sprints is a mat- ter of doing the little things, for the most part, but Harrison said Henry's training regimen has made her a bet- ter runner. "I think a lot of it is just the practices we've had to do," she said. "Coach Henry had us do a lot of endurance stuff. I think that definitely got my legs to be stronger. It helps me with my endurance in a race so I can keep a steady pace for the 400 and the 200." Henry also has a knack for keep- ing the team loose and grounded, she added. "It's a really good relationship," Harrison said. "He's very supportive. He likes to not only talk about athlet- ics, but also academics and social life. He's in your life everywhere, prac- tically. He reminded me of my high school coach. He was supportive, but also stern." Harrison has spent the offseason back home on the West Coast nursing stress reactions to both feet, injuries she pushed through to notch her im- pressive times. She was still off her feet as of July 3, staying in shape by swimming and riding the bike, and confident she'll be 100 percent at the start of her second season. When it comes to personal goals, she continues to keep it general. "Outdoor I did improve [my 200 time] by a few milliseconds … indoor, not so much," she quipped. "But that's okay — maybe next year. "If I could maybe be just a little faster than I was last year … indoor I did get the better times in the 400, so I want to improve my 200 indoor, my 400 outdoor." While a professional future appears to be in the cards, she's in no hurry, a freshman savoring her collegiate ex- perience. "Right now I just want to get through college. I'm not thinking of going pro," she said. "I do want to get my master's and go into the work force, but right now I plan to finish through my senior year and then see what happens." ❏ MacKenzi Welsh led the U-M volleyball squad in assists in all 35 matches this past season on her way to Big Ten All-Freshman accolades.
