TAKE AIM OUT WEST Just five miles west of town you’ll find Skyline Gun Club. It offers fun and challenging Sporting Clays shooting year round. Its 12-Sta- tion Field Sporting Clays course is open through September. In 2007, the club purchased three additional Promatic Super Sporter automatic traps, providing for a minimum of 12 fully-automated stations. For skills training, local instructors offer lessons for individuals and small groups by appointment. (For junior shooters, there is an instructional fee discount to help promote and develop youth participation in the clay target sports.) 208-525-8575 Another option you’ll want to consider ST. ANTHONY SAND DUNES ational no-brainer for families through- out Idaho Falls. Packed full of fun rides, yummy treats and a festive atmosphere, it’s also an economical way to spend a summer afternoon. It’s also a great place for company parties, as it can cater events of around 2,000 people in fine fashion. For organized events (company functions, family reunions, etc.), there doesn’t seem to be a better way to throw a party than to buy tickets, invite your guests, show up, and leave when you’re done. ROLL AROUND THE RINK Like the venerable drive-in theatre, a select number of skating rinks have managed to maintain their popularity despite the ebb and flow of recreational trends. Starlite Skating Rink here in town is a great case in point. Founded in 1984, Starlite makes a great venue for special functions. The skat- ing rink and other facilities can be made available to you for birthday parties, holi- day parties or corporate events. 208-522-5171 MAKE A WAKE Idaho Falls is not really known as a gate- 26 IDAHO FALLS VISITORS GUIDE 2010 way for lake boaters. Perhaps that ought to change. Gem Lake is right in town, Ririe Reservoir is just up the road and you can easily make a day trip out of Palisades Res- ervoir to the east and Island Park Reservoir to the north. Grab a ski or board and give it a go! is the renownedWestern Wings Birds and Clays facility, located up the road in Roberts. It occupies a portion of the historic Blue Stem Ranch, which has been under the ownership of the same local family since 1914, spanning four genera- tions. (The fifth is now being raised on the ranch.) Dave Robison and his wife Terri are the current owners, along with their four children. It is a membership club but is also open to public use. 208-228-2581 JUMP FROM A PLANE To many, skydiving is tantamount to a death wish. One of the most common copouts is that you don’t have the time to invest in training. If you’re looking for one of the most exciting recreational activities ACTIVITIES
