NGB News USA Hockey & U.S. Figure Skating 24 /JULY.AUGUST.2018 USICERINKS.COM U.S. Figure Skating Issues SafeSport Compliance Requirements Try Hockey For Free & 2 and 2 Challenge Dates Announced , Try Hockey For Free Days: USA Hockey's national Try Hockey For Free Days are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018, during Come Play Hockey Month, and Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019, as part of Hockey Week Across America. Last season, nearly 25,000 children participated in USA Hockey's two Try Hockey For Free Days. These events have introduced more than 177,000 children to the sport since their inception eight seasons ago. Associations and arenas interested in hosting one of the Try Hockey For Free Days can visit USAHockeyProgramServices.com for more information. , 2 and 2 Challenge: USA Hockey's 2 and 2 Challenge program provides youth hockey associations with an actionable season-long plan and support for increasing participation among children between the ages of 4 and 8. Associations have the opportunity to utilize step-by- step guidance, tools and national resources to achieve the program's goal of adding two new players and retaining two more players than the previous season's total. The three phases of the 2 and 2 Challenge include retention, acquisition, and conversion. USA Hockey supports participating associations through each phase on and off the ice. In support of the Try Hockey For Free Days and the 2 and 2 Challenge, USA Hockey supplies participating associations with marketing resources and other support to promote the game at the grassroots level. USA Hockey also partners with the National Hockey League and its member clubs to market the Try Hockey For Free Days nationwide. , U.S. Figure Skating requires individuals it, or its member clubs, formally authorizes, approves or appoints (1) to a position of authority over, or (2), to have frequent contact with athletes to have successfully completed a background check with a green light finding prior to participating in and/or preparing for U.S. Figure Skating-related activities. Adults Required to Complete SafeSport Training and Background Checks (Must be 18 years or older as of July 1, 2018) Associated with activities overseen by U.S. Figure Skating Associated with activities overseen by Member Clubs Coaches and other individual professionals • U.S. Figure Skating staff. • U.S. Figure Skating-hired independent contractors and/or vendors who come into frequent contact with athletes. • U.S. Figure Skating Board Members. • U.S. Figure Skating Committee Chairs. • U.S. Figure Skating Officials. • Members appointed to travel with Team USA: • Team Leaders • Team Support Staff • Team Physicians • Faculty, staff, chaperones and lead volunteers for U.S. Figure Skating training camps. • Volunteer medical staff support- ing U.S. Figure Skating national or international events. • S.T.A.R.S. anchors. * U.S. Figure Skating responsible for cost of background checks • All volunteers in any sanctioned events or club activities who come in close contact with athletes. • Team Managers / Team Service personnel for synchronized skating and theatre on ice teams. • Locker room volunteers for all competitions, ice shows, club events, programs, etc. • Club SafeSport Compliance Chairs. * U.S. Figure Skating is responsible for the cost of background checks for one SafeSport Compliance Chair per club. The Club/individual responsible for the cost of all others in this category. • All U.S. Figure Skating member coaches. • Partners assisting in pair or dance tests with minor athletes. • All registered Learn to Skate USA instructors, coaches and directors. • Any professional service pro- vider (i.e., sport psychologist, nutritionist, choreographer, etc.,) wishing to obtain a cre- dential for a U.S. Figure Skating sanctioned event. * Coaches, individual professionals responsible for cost of background checks.
