Big-Time Blowout
Purdue notches largest Big Ten victory in Painter Era
Feb. 24, 2013
Purdue 74, Northwestern 43
West Lafayette Mackey Arena
All it takes is a pump fake from
sharpshooter D.J. Byrd to get
defenders in the air. Though Byrd
has struggled at points to get into
rhythm from the perimeter, he
drilled a pair of three-pointers en
route to scoring 13 points against
Northwestern.
Point guard Ronnie Johnson led the break with a bevy of
Boilermakers trailing, just one instance of the programs
trademark hustle and effort re-emerging against the
Wildcats. After eight days off, Purdue largely showed the passion Coach Matt Painter had been pleading for all season.
Sandi Marcius showed the same grit
and toughness against Northwestern
hed displayed the last two weeks.
Those qualities helped Marcius get
his first start since Game 3 against
the Wildcats, and he responded with
four points on 2-of-3 shooting, three
rebounds, two blocks and a steal in 16
minutes.
President Mitch Daniels, who has been a frequent attendee
to Purdue sporting events since arriving on campus, got tips
while snapping some photos.
