HERBST WINS TT SPEC CLASS In His First Solo Drive, Thor Herbst Proves He’s Got What It Takes To Win Story by Stuart Bourdon Photos by Get Some Photo When Thor Herbst came back from his qualifying run for the King Shocks 37th SCORE San Felipe 250, he was disappointed and down in the dumps because he went too wide and missed a few corners. Herbst Racing Team Manager Todd Gorsuch immediately let him know just how proud of his effort everyone on the Terrible Herbst Team was. Veteran driver Jason McNeil had qualified first, and hot-shoe Ryan Millen had driven EJ Herbst’s truck in the qualifier to a second-place starting position. Thor Herbst had nothing to be ashamed of. He was starting third in a field of 39 SCORE Trophy Truck Spec competitors and in the 18th starting position overall. After the race started, Herbst had some trouble with tires early on and fell behind, but eventually caught back up to McNeil in the upper loop of the racecourse. At one point, Herbst went wide on a line to pass McNeil, and came right up next to McNeil’s door. In the battle, McNeil edged him out by just a bumper-width, and slid in front of Herbst, dusting him out in the process. Not too much longer after that, McNeil got a flat and Herbst passed him. It didn’t take long, however, for McNeil to get back up and running, but was a couple minutes down. Herbst kept it pinned from there-on, had zero flat tires, zero issues, and was putting time on McNeil. In Herbst’s first solo drive, he crossed the finish line in the Trophy Truck Spec class and 10th overall in the 2024 SCORE San Felipe 250. SJ
