PullUSA: What's one thing about this sport you wish more people knew? Savanna Atha: The strong sense of community it fosters and the support it offers to everyone involved. As a girl participating in this sport, it can feel intimidating. However, it has turned out to be one of the most enjoyable activities I've ever engaged in. Not only has it pro- vided my father and me with a weekend hobby, but it has also brought me friends I can rely on, who have consistently had my back, especially during competitions. What I cherish most about competing is standing alongside my friends on the line, knowing we're there not just to do our best to win, but also to have fun. PullUSA: Most memorable moment? Atha: Last June at my first State com- petition, where I earned a third-place finish. The season leading up to that event had been incredibly competitive and stressful, especially considering that I had only fired a gun once before and not towards a moving target. PullUSA: What other activities are you involved in? Atha: I enjoy singing and dancing. My parents have always encouraged me to pursue any interest in sports I have, which has led me to join my school's dance team and show choir. PullUSA: Any goals for the upcoming season? Atha: At the beginning of this year, one of my primary goals was to achieve a perfect score of 25 out of 25. Now that I have reached that milestone, my new objective for the remainder of the year is to secure first place in the State compe- tition, qualify for Nationals, and earn a placement at the national level. PullUSA: Anyone you'd like to give a shoutout to? Atha: I would like to acknowledge the two coaches who inspired me to pursue this sport and have greatly contributed to my progress through their unwavering belief and encouragement to persevere. Thank you, Coach Collins and Coach Kizer of Carolina Forest High School. Also none of this would have been possi- ble if it wasn't for my grandmother, Vicki. Each issue of PullUSA features different high school clay target athletes exhibiting exceptional character and passion for the sport and their communities. ✪ THE LEAD ON T HE L INE 16 3r d O ver all Junior Var si t y Female a t the 2024 S C SHS C T L Sta te Tour nam en t AG E FU N FAC T S SAVANNA ATHA ❚❙❘ SOPHOMORE | CAROLINA FOREST H.S. | MYRTLE BEACH, SC ❘❙❚ 14 PULLUSA MAGAZINE SPRING 2025 S AVANNA ATHA had never shot a clay target before joining her high school team, but that didn't stop her from climbing the leaderboard.
