This program, founded in 2020, has built something special—a place where students from different grades, backgrounds, and experiences come together through a shared passion. Unlike traditional school sports, clay target shoot- ing does not have starting lineups or benchwarmers. Every student athlete competes. Everyone has the opportunity to improve and succeed. This creates a unique team environment. "The thing that stands out the most to me about clay target sports at the high school level is the way the team members enjoy being a part the program and the club itself," head coach Andy Feld said. "Being a part of a clay target team and not having to compete with each other for positions or places on the team allows the students to have fun without the pressure of inner team competition. They all want each other to shoot their best every week." The team consists of 15 student athletes ranging from middle schoolers to seniors. "One of my favorite things is watching how this sport brings kids together," Feld said. "Even though they do not spend much time with each other at school, at practice and competitions they form this tight-knit group. That is something unique to trap shooting." Seniors Jordan Fenendael and Logan Wilson are among the top scorers. Seniors Kirsten Feld and Maisen Luedke are also standouts. "When I shoot trap, I can focus on myself, whereas in other sports, I have to focus on how others do," said Kirsten Feld. "My dad always told me it does not matter how other people shoot because I should just be competing against my old scores. Being able to shoot with this mentality has really helped me improve and separates trap from other sports." The team-first, community-focused atmosphere provides a welcoming environment.
