Greg Latta is a junior college transfer but also quickly adapted, saying he hasn't worn red since he's been with the Boilermakers. "It's the biggest game on our schedule, always has been, always will be," said Latta, a senior. "It's bigger than just us players. It's the schools. It means a lot to go out and play for the Bucket. Winning a rivalry game is like nothing else — it's like winning a couple games just for that one game. "This year, we haven't had that great of a season, but (you hear), 'It's OK, just beat IU and keep the Bucket.'" j This Week In Purdue History Nov. 30, 1963 • With the game postponed a week due to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, Purdue travels to Bloomington to take on the Hoosiers. IU took a 15-14 lead with under three minutes left, but Gordon Teter returned the ensuing Hoosiers' kickoff 68 yards to the IU 25. On the next play, Purdue scored the winning touchdown to claim the 21-15 victory and return The Bucket to West Lafayette. Nov. 30 1968 • A talented Purdue basketball team, which had enjoyed the sights and sounds of Los Angeles, opened the season by battling No. 1 UCLA before losing 9482 to the two-time national champions. Rick Mount dazzled the Bruins with 33 points, and the Boilermakers did a good job defending Lew Alcindor, but super sophomore Curtis Rowe scored 27 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. The two teams met in the national title game four months later. Nov. 27, 2010 • Winless in Big Ten play, Indiana travels to West Lafayette as four-point underdog and escapes with a 34-31 overtime win. Purdue looked to be in good shape, leading 21-7 late in the second quarter, but the Hoosiers rallied. Freshman kicker Mitch Ewald tied the game with nine seconds left in regulation and won it in overtime on a 31-yard field goal after quarterback Rob Henry was intercepted in the extra period. PURDUE PRIDE Florida native Ricardo Allen, who will play his final Bucket game Saturday, said he was hit with the immense intensity of the rivalry actually after his first game against the Hoosiers. Purdue led in that game 21-7 but couldn't withstand a furious Indiana rally and lost in overtime. "You could see the frustration on the seniors' faces and the people who played in that game so many times and just how down the campus was," Allen said. "That's when you really realize how much it means. Going up on a team by two touchdowns, most people don't come back from that. It's a rivalry game and anything can happen, and that just goes to show how important this is."
