4 THE WOLVERINE JUNE/JULY 2019 AN OMISSION Dear The Wolverine, On April 9, 2019, Jamal Craw- ford (1999-2000) set an NBA record by scoring 51 points at the age of 39 years and 20 days, becoming the old- est player to score 50 or more points in a game. This quite noteworthy ac- complishment was absent from your "Michigan in the Pros" section in The Wolverine May 2019 issue. Crawford deserves credit as, amaz- ingly enough, his career total of 19,414 points in 19 seasons ranks him as the 51st leading scorer in NBA history! This fact makes Crawford one of the greatest former Michigan basketball players ever, as he has outdistanced the point totals of Glen Rice, Chris Webber, Juwan Howard, Rudy Tom- janovich and Cazzie Russell. Many would be surprised by the monstrous statistical heights attained by Crawford after leaving Michigan. Myself included. Ed McArdle Saginaw, Mich. Thanks for the great catch, Mr. McArdle. TO OUR READERS Long-time readers know the June/ July edition of The Wolverine is nor- mally focused on basketball recruiting. However, with Juwan Howard being hired less than a week before our print deadline and so much of the recruiting class still undecided, we are holding the basketball recruiting coverage until our next regular magazine, which is the August edition that we will send to the printer July 16 (our annual 170-plus- page football preview magazine will be in the mail in early July). This will allow the recruiting class to finalize (four-star Cole Bajema recently reaffirmed his pledge, but U-M will have to battle some heavy hitters to re-secure four-star Jalen Wilson — and there is still room to add others). It's also worth noting that Howard's introductory press conference did not occur until two days after we went to press, but we were still able to capture the national reaction to the hire and gained some valuable knowledge on the new coach through a number of other sources in the pages that follow. The latest on basketball recruiting will be available on TheWolverine.com. If you've never been a member of our website on the Rivals.com network, now is a great time to check it out. As a magazine subscriber, we'll even give you a free 60-day trial — just sign up using the promo code: BLUE60. We strive for our monthly magazine to have the latest and most in-depth information, but there's no way in print to match the breaking news and timely updates that we provide online. The magazine will continue to carry exclusive in-depth features, analysis and columns not available on TheWol- verine.com or anywhere else. We just think that if you enjoy the magazine, you will also appreciate what we provide online with weekly insider reports using our vast network of sources during football season, for- mer All-Big Ten offensive lineman Doug Skene breaking down game film, subscriber chats with our knowledge- able staff, breaking news with analysis and immediate-reaction columns to it, the best subscriber-only message board of Michigan fans on the planet and so much more. Thanks for your continued support, and Go Blue!
