TECHNOLOGY: BIG DATA II SELF-SERVICE FOR DRIVERS Fleets historically have digested information in the back ofce before they shared the results with drivers. Today, the same type of scorecard report used by managers is displayed in the cab. Drivers can see their overall scores and drill down into categories such as mpg to determine how their performance for shifting, idling and speed affected their overall score. They also can see statistics for several safety and compliance areas. PeopleNets soon-to-be-released incab driver scorecard system will provide real-time feedback to drivers while the vehicle is in motion through text-tovoice. The alerts will highlight areas where drivers arent performing well; drivers also will be able to see an overall score while driving. When drivers stop, they can view the score in more detail, says Rick Ochsendorf, executive vice president of operations. Zonar plans to release a MyDriving app for its 2020 in-cab computing platform that will allow drivers to see their real-time driving score and how it compares to those of their peers or against the companys goals. Fleets can customize the information based on their companys operational needs and goals. Rand McNally offers a stats menu in its TND 760 and TPC 7600 systems. Drivers can click on an icon to see how they are performing for the day and over the past month for mpg, idle time, hard braking, shifting, speeding and other areas. CADECS PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT SCORECARDS PROVIDE FLEET MANAGERS WITH AN INTUITIVE EASY-TO-READ REPORT ON DRIVER BEHAVIOR BASED ON KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS THAT HIGHLIGHT ISSUES SUCH AS SPEEDING, IDLING, OVERREVVING OR SUDDEN DECELERATIONS. so that events that were deemed higher risk such as rapid deceleration or activation of the rollover stability control system became visible immediately. When Cadec released its current PowerVue platform, the GYR report became a real-time BI scorecard that now includes a full array of safety, supply chain performance and productivity elements. It is way more dynamic and real time for metrics that merit real-time scorecarding, says Owen Smith, senior vice president of product strategy. The scorecard normalizes the data based on factors such as miles, engine hours and stops. Each category is weighted as to what is most important to the total composite score. CarrierWeb recently created a dynamic reporting tool to compare driver route performance against company standards. Users quickly can nd all drivers and vehicles that ran a designated route for a certain time period. Drivers that exceeded standards or the average for speeds, stop times, fuel economy and other metrics are identied with color-coding. Qualcomm offers a variety of BI tools through its Analytics Manager application. Fuel, safety, compliance and other driver efciency metrics are pulled into a central database for reporting. Users can see performance summaries and drill down to specic events. Scorecards can be created for monitoring groups and individual drivers. Since Analytics Manager is a cloud-based system, users also can compare mpg and other metrics with data aggregated from other Qualcomm customers. Rand McNally has a new dashboard in its Connect Web portal that is part of its TND 760 and TPC 7600 mobile eet management systems. The dashboard view shows trends and key performance indicators. Fleet managers can drill down into business issues via detailed reports that can be exported to Excel for further analysis. LAS CRUCES, N.M.-BASED MESILLA VALLEY TRANSPORTATION IMPLEMENTED A BI PLATFORM FROM MICROSOFT TO GATHER DATA FROM VARIOUS SOURCES AND CREATE CUSTOMIZED REPORTS AND DASHBOARDS FOR ANALYSIS. ENTERPRISE DATA Dispatch and enterprise software systems capture a vast array of information through integration with third-party systems such as onboard computing and 54 COMMERCIAL CARRIER JOURNAL 0413_TECHFeature.indd 54 | APRIL 2013 3/19/13 3:43 PM
