22 HIPHOP / RNB guestlist.net album of the month Pusha T - My Name Is My Name Issue 57 / 2013 Artist of the month Eminem His first solo album since signing with Kanye West, Pusha T sticks to his guns and what he knows best. Punch lines come frequently mixed with vivid tales of his infamous drug dealing days. Taking momentum from his past with 'The Clipse' (him & his brother Malice), Pusha shows he can go it alone and in some style. The raw and gritty rhyming remains current throughout which will please the faithful, plus executive production from Kanye West himself adds the cherry on top. TRACK of the month Tinie Tempah ft John Martin - Children of the Sun "Godfather of rap", "A genius", "Unmatched wordplay", "Made for Hip Hop", "Eminem=Greatness". These are the words his peers and collaborators associate with the Detroit-MC who has become a living legend of the genre in the eyes of many, as well as being the highest selling hip hop artists of all time with over 100 million albums sold worldwide and counting. This month saw the release of the sequel to his critically acclaimed MMLP, Marshal Mathers LP 2, and it is already one of the highest selling albums of the year. Time and time again Eminem has proven to the music industry, and to fans, that he is unrivalled in holding the crown as one of the greatest lyrical technicians to ever pick up a microphone. From early on in his career, he has displayed an astonishing arsenal of wordplay, metaphors, complex rhyme-schemes and mind boggling multi-syllables. These traits have established him as one of the greatest rappers of his generation with his peers rightfully paying homage to the sometimes controversial MC. Not to be taken for granted either is his ability to craft songs which not only maintain an artistic integrity and devotion to the songwriting craft, but are commercially viable, connecting with listeners around the globe and becoming anthems for generations. Musically, he has also collaborated with artists outside of the normal hip hop circles with features including Dido and Elton John, and these have catapulted his music to astronomical sales figures and reached audiences in far parts of the globe. Fans of Eminem have a uniquely strong relationship with the rapper whom is known to be an open book when it comes to his music. Discussing personal matters such as the loss of best friend, Proof, his hatred for his mother and former girlfriend as well as drug issues he has dealt with. Rapper 50 Cent, once mentored by the MC and legendary producer Dr. Dre, joked about the power of his fanbase and influence, saying Eminem could "press record, sneeze on a track, and it would sell a million copies". Long may this continue and long may the Godfather bless the hip hop family with his gifts of brilliant and timeless records.
